BEAR RIVER

STORY

Ashley began fishing almost as soon as she could walk. Her nickname was “Little Bear” because she loved catching fish and scooping them out of the water in a net, just like a bear catches fish with it's paw.

Over time she became quite skilled at fishing with flies and went with me and her grandfather whenever possible.

During her last year in college she was diagnosed with the disorder that would eventually require her to use a wheelchair or crutches to move around.

However, this disability did not extinguish her desire to be outside fishing and she began tying flies to try.  Some of the patterns we developed proved to be extremely effective and did not require expensive equipment to catch fish.

We applied for a patent and started talking about setting up a business to sell the flies.  Little Ashley was going to be the marketing manager, smiling at the camera and catching big fish all over the world.

Shortly after the patent was awarded, Ashley passed away.  On that day the world lost a beautiful soul and I lost my best fishing buddy.

In Ashley’s honor we decided to name the business Bear River Tackle, echoing her nickname, Little Bear.

Our objective is to make fly fishing accessible to as many people as possible through the unique Bear River Tackle Flies and nontraditional fishing techniques which Ashley used.

SO EFFECTIVE, THEY'RE PATENTED

Bear River Tackle flies are unlike any other flies in the entire world and are so effective they are patented (U.S. Pat. 10,039,271 and U.S. Pat. 10,292,376 B1).

The U.S. Patent covers everything offered on this website and any fly that is similar including flies tied with different numbers of feathers, different types of feathers and different materials.

Please honor the patent.

Fly Pattern Intellectual Property

The fly patterns on this website and anything which resembles them are covered by a US Patent. With this in mind, please do not:

  • Tie the specified flies or patterns or anything that resembles them for sale or trade.

  • Send the flies or patterns to any company who may sell or trade them.

  • Send the flies or patterns to any fly tying or fly fishing publication.

  • Enter the flies or patterns into any contest.

  • Take any other action which would put Bear River's intellectual property at risk.

Thanks and enjoy great fishing!

BEAR RIVER TECHNIQUE

Bear River flies do not require a complicated fishing technique to be very effective.

Simply reel or strip to fly towards you in a short burst followed by a pause so the fly can

“swim down” in the water column.

Sometimes it helps to make a small splash on the water with the bubble to get the attention of the fish,

which will come over to investigate.

The fly will do the rest with its independent swimming action.
